APD often occurs with other areas of difficulty:
The estimate of Chermak and Musiek (1998) of 3-5% incidence of APD is widely accepted though some authors estimate a high incidence. This is greater than the incidence of deafness requiring hearing aids in children. Auditory Processing DisorderAuditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a hearing problem in which the ears process sound normally but the brain sometimes has difficulty interpreting what is heard. This can adversely affect understanding, especially in difficult listening conditions such as in a noisy classroom, or when listening to complex information or intstructions. As a result, learning can also be affected.
